Amazon expands in healthcare market by acquiring pharmacy startup, Pillpack

PillPack is a pharmacy company that aids your prescriptions by the dose and delivers to your door. Amazon acquired Pillpack to enhance eHealth solutions across the globe.

Amazon is expanding in the health market through a host of initiatives such as acquiring small healthcare startups and customising its cloud services for healthcare services.

The company recently acquired pharmacy startup- Pillpack that will help Amazon to be the retail giant nationwide in drug networking. The game changer in the health sector is said to start during the second half of 2018 as the companies disclosed it. This will benefit patients because they will be able to get their medicine in their comfort zone without travelling to buy in the stores.

Amazon is acquiring online pharmacy Pillpack INC. where they will be able to ship prescriptions within the country for less than 24 hours where they will be working day and night. It might appear as a great threat to pharmacy businesses. The amount they are planning to use is approximately $1 billion, which will be used in medication, and shipping to clients homes within 49 states in America, where Hawaii is excluded.

Pill pack does not have many customers in the overall market and Amazon is looking forward to extending the market and becoming great giants in the e-commerce market.

This deal will make Amazon be a streamliner in online operations because pill pack has been licensed to ship prescriptions in more than 50 states where PharmacyOS manage the logistics. The software is designed to handle everything starting with refills to minutiae that deal with insurance companies.

Consumers will receive their packages as prescribed through their emails in a safe condition. Amazon is required to expand on facilities that pill pack has to be able to deal with the massive logistic networks. This will bring a great force from Amazon who is already pushing deeper into the health sector.

Amazon will be required to work with carriers that have a good reputation for them to deliver the medications as required. The shipping will include pre-sorted packaging, renewals, and refills and always ensure everything arrives in time according to the agreement between them and the consumer.

The company has been able to raise $100 million from funds then the customers using this platform pays a service fee which can be covered by several medical programs and insurance companies.

Jeffrey Wilke, who is the Amazon CEO worldwide consumers, said that “Pillpack’s visionary team has a combination of deep pharmacy experience and a focus on technology. Pill ack is meaningfully improving its customers’ lives, and we want to help them continue making it easy for people to save time, simplify their lives, and feel healthier. We’re excited to see what we can do together on behalf of customers over time”.

Seeing that Amazon has a keen interest in getting into the health sector, it’s expected that great change will be felt by consumers who do not like to travel to buy medication but rather have it delivered on their doorstep.

This will bring one-click-shopping in medical prescription services, where the online giant will continue to build its online reputation as one place to shop and get everything.
