Huawei is the latest addition to this domain, collaborating with established genomic data experts WuXi NextCODE and WuXi AppTec. The platform created by this partnership is aiming to support the Precision Medicine initiative taken up by the Chinese government, and link researchers across China through a secure nationwide network.

A multi-nation conglomerate

Huawei cloud services have over 50,000 customers spread throughout China with data centers in 15 cities. Leading the way in genomics technology and powering the leading population genomics with large-scale medicine efforts in UK, Qatar, US and China, Wuxi NextCODE is about to enter the cloud space through the Precision Medicine Cloud(PMC) powered by DNAnexus. DNAnexus provides security, scalability, and collaboration for enterprises and institutions that are pursuing genomic-based approaches to health to accelerate medical discovery. This initiative is to bring cloud-based genomics to China and to introduce Chinese genomics to the world. The cost associated with this action is estimated to be $9.2 Billion and is expected to touch almost 100 Million lives by 2030.

China has enlisted the private sector as well as government resources in its dream to make the country a leader in “precision medicine,” which aims to treat diseases tailored to individual patients based on their genetic makeup. Sequencing data: A revolutionary solution for improving medicine

The first and foremost step in this process will be to collect genomic data from the Chinese and international populations. A multi-disciplinary team coordinated by the Beijing Institute of Genomics will first collect genetic information from about 2,000 volunteers and aim to develop new treatment concepts. Then, comes the part of accumulating data from the respective data centers and start the sequencing process.

The application of sequencing data is to improve diagnosis, develop better and more targeted drugs, and to provide informed, personalized scientific wellness regimes that can help people to stay healthier longer. Huawei Technologies will develop the cloud support platform.
